"Passionate, relevant and heartbreaking. My Land’s Shore’s professional world premiere is a roaring success. Christopher J Orton’s score is gorgeous, and it is most definitely written for a Welsh voice, the sound pouring over the entire audience and blending beautifully. Although there were lots of standout solo performances, there is no doubting that the show is most impressive when the full ensemble is together. "Where My Land's Shore soars however is in its stirring ensemble numbers and an unwavering excellence throughout its company." "Brendan Matthew uses the compact space well with an excellent creative team. Aaron Clingham's musical direction brings out the lush charms of Orton's melodies, Joanna Dias multi-layered set is an imaginative use of wood that so easily suggests location, be it miners' cottages, chapel, or a riotous town square and there's fine choreography from Charlotte Tooth, especially amidst the raucous routine of Isn't It A Sin." "Unquestionably a flawed masterpiece, My Land’s Shore represents the stunning potential that exists in new British musical theatre writing. Matthew and Clingham have served the text well, delivering a fascinating narrative and stirring songs in an inspirational production that’s deservedly playing to packed Walthamstow houses. There’s still work to be done, but this show deserves to go on to greater things." www.jonathanbaz.com My Land's Shore nominated for THREE Off West End Theatre AwardsWe are delighted to announce that My Land's Shore has been nominated for two Off West End Theatre Awards:

"The score is certainly splendid, offering a veritably operatic array of simply spine-tingling choruses, handsome solos, powerful scenas, and moments of sublime transcendence." "...this sensational work really, really merits a lot more attention than that." http://britishtheatre.com Star rating: five stars ★★★★★
"...My Land’s Shore stands alone as a powerful, passionate musical in its own right. Christopher J Orton and Robert Gould have created a show that speaks volumes and touches the heart, and the tear ducts, of the entire audience. One thing is for sure; it is far too big for its current venue at Ye Olde Rose and Crown and deserves a transfer as soon as possible." Star rating: four stars ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
"This new musical by Christopher J Orton (music and lyrics) and Robert Gould (book and lyrics), based on a true story, is well-worth a visit. From the powerful opening number, ‘Burning’, this production captures the audience and takes it on an emotional journey of hardship, injustice, conflict, heartbreak and moral dilemmas." "The 18-strong cast is impressive with powerful voices. It is encouraging to see that several of them are making their professional debuts in this production, no doubt names to look out for in the future." "The staging of this show is a credit to director Brendan Matthew. The set, designed by Joana Dias, is wonderfully effective and Charlotte Tooth deserves an award for her choreography – to create what she does with so many actors in such a confined space is nothing short of brilliant. An excellent six-piece band is led by musical director Aaron Clingham." http://musicaltheatrereview.com |
